About Play Club

Play Club:

• offers a place and time for Courtenay Little Theatre members to read plays together, just for the fun of the learning experience, and to engage in discussion about these plays.

• is a play reading club that operates without charge by and for local CLT members.

• offers a place and time for potential CLT directors who want to hear previously produced plays read aloud they may be considering for possible CLT production, and to receive oral and written critical feedback from CLT members before they may choose/decline to submit a play to the Selection Committee for consideration.

• offers a place and time where Selection Committee members can hear plays read, to help them understand and choose plays for production, and to receive oral and written critical feedback from CLT members to guide their selections.

Play Club is not:

• a public staged reading or a public performance. It is intended for local CLT members.

• a place to workshop plays that have not received a prior production

Responsibilities of directors/presenters:

• research and choose a suitable play for a PC reading

• work with the PC coordinator(s) to plan an appropriate time and date for the reading

• provide copies of the play to the readers

• cast the reading, or work with the PC coordinator to do so

• introduce the reading

• lead a discussion of the play after the reading

• work with the PC coordinator to do the physical set up of the space, and to clean up after.

The Play Club coordinator(s):

• will assist the directors/presenters, to do any of the above, when asked, to the best of their ability and availability.

• prepare, provide, gather and copy feedback forms for the director/presenter and the Selection Committee, if the play is to be considered for a future CLT production.
